Thanks for bearing with us while we finished our kayak repairs. The boats are back and ready to go.
Every kayak we rent is self bailing and most have a storage hatch where you can pack a wet bag with a camera, lunch, fishing gear, sunscreen, and a change of clothes. If you have forgotten something we do have a retail store that can outfit you with everything from bottled water and ice to a new t-shirt or sports cap.
We launch your kayak from our convenient adjoining beach. Choose between single or double boats and then we'll outfit you with a personal floatation device and paddle. Our kayaks are always like new and each will be customized to fit your particular paddling requirements.
Naturally, we provide you with a paddling demonstration and a safety briefing before each tour which should equip you with enough of the basics to get you going. But if you'd like an hour of instruction or a guide to come along with you, we can arrange that too. Guides offer a wealth of marine and environmental knowledge and are only too happy to answer all your questions.
Whether you choose to hire a guide or tour on your own, a comfortable excursion from Hidden Cove typically includes the sight of our resident Ospreys soaring overhead in search of prey. If you're lucky, you'll see one as it wings back to its nest to feed its noisy brood with a fresh catch of fish. Striped bass, bluefish, weakfish and fluke inhabit the water and a trained eye can sometimes pick out the ghostly form of a big 'striper' patrolling the skinny water near shore.
Once out in Noyack Bay, Clam Island County Nature Preserve is only a twenty minute paddle west. Make one of these long quiet stretches of beach your own for the afternoon. Fish, swim or spread a towel while you soak up the rays and satisfy your own appetite. After exploring its gin clear water and sandy shoreline, another short paddle takes you into Morton National Wildlife Refuge. There you can paddle your kayak up Noyack Creek that lays hidden within the needle like peninsula called Jessup's Neck. Some of the birds within the Wildlife Refuge are known to be so tame as to take birdseed from your extended hand!
Those taking the exterior route along Jessup's shoreline will pass miles of pristine white beaches. Jessup's beaches have been undisturbed since the first settlers found them in 1649 making for pretty good odds you won't be disturbed either.
More adventurous types, whose experience allows them the thrill of crossing open water, can set a course for Shelter Island Sound, the North Fork of Long Island and the shores of North Haven in Sag Harbor. Most of our customers find that two hours provides a sufficient work out. If you do intend to cross Noyack Bay, check with us for weather alerts before you go.
A bustling whaling town in 1790 Sag Harbor is now a premier yachting destination and boasts a rich and colorful history. Vessels from around the globe traded in everything from whale oil to silk from the Orient. Captain Kidd himself left treasure on nearby Gardiner's Island but never came back for it. He was found guilty of piracy in London then hung!
For the ultimate vacation rent our 34' sailboat and put a kayak or two onboard!
